I'm a morning person. I love to tackle big projects early in the morning and boast that I got them done before 9am.
I'm also a night person. I love to stay up until midnight playing Minecraft with my husband and enjoying a mint hot cocoa.
I am not an afternoon person. For some reason the time between noon and 5 is when I wander through the house or just try to survive until the evening.
I try to remedy this by setting my appointments for afternoon, or by going grocery shopping then. But sometimes I still find myself at 2 in the afternoon with a loss of what to do.
Today promised to be the same. I finished all my projects by 11 then went into town to have lunch with my husband. I was home by 1.
I had already finished all the laundry, dishes, cleaned the litter box, and even swept the whole house, but was unsure of what to do next until I remembered something my Dad told me years ago. He said that if you're working a job, and you have finished all your tasks, don't stand around, grab a broom. Basically, he's saying to just keep moving and doing. There's got to be something that can be done, and he's right.
So today I looked around my house to find something else to work on.
First I remembered that I had added a new task to my habit tracker, and that was to drink water everyday. So I prepared for work by making a lemon water, and took a picture to prove it, haha.
I love making lemon water in these large canning jars. It makes drinking lots of water easy for me.
Next I decided to clean my sink a little deeper than I usually do.
I wiped down the window sill and behind the sink and carefully rearranged my decor. This is where I really enjoy minimalism. Those stones are bits of rock and seashell that my husband has found at job sites or at work. One is heart shaped, another is a petrified clam shell. They mean a lot to me, so I try to line them up where I can see them everyday.
This really made me happy today because I was able to deep clean something easily since it was already kept clean on a regular basis. I've been doing my dishes regularly, and now am able to keep my sink clean as well as the area surrounding it.
On another note, I really don't like that my blender is so close to my sink, but it is so tall it doesn't fit under any of my cabinets. I'm hoping in a future remodel that can be remedied, as well as create a space for it to be silenced a bit. I hate how loud it is, but it does do a good job.
I feel like I'm all over the place tonight with my thoughts, but I feel very accomplished today as my husband and I took another big step on my secret project, and I will be able to paint it tomorrow.
I think taking a little time in the afternoon and just deep cleaning one simple thing when possible is a new habit I would like to make. I hope it will help me to have my home more together and not feel so overwhelmed when it comes time to clean it.
Let me know in the comments how you keep motivated even during the lull of the day.
